Westminster Biblical Missions to Pakistan - Spring 2004
Rev. Earl E. Pinckney - Field Secretary
Dear Partners in Missions,
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…” Psalm 46:1, 2a.
It is a great joy to participate in some of the activities of the Kingdom of God in Pakistan. Each day brings new challenges and we can see God providentially enabling His people to meet them. We are engaged in a spiritual battle with the forces of darkness, and the cause does not advance without struggles.
Because Pakistan is in the middle of terrorist activities, it has been necessary to spend much time, money and effort to protect the various ministries. Sardar’s most recent letter illustrates something of what they are facing. He wrote:
“Calvin’s Academy No. 3 needs much prayer. The whole city of Muridke, where our school is located, is terrified by the gruesome work of the terrorists. They have slit open the stomachs of small children and gouged out their eyes. Schools are operating with great caution. We are always on the alert. We are instructing our children and teachers to go in groups, not to take short routes, but go on the ways used by many, many people. We will have many admissions but people at present are very much afraid. Please note that this is not against our school or against Christians, but this is terrorism in general.”
Our part is to PRAY and encourage them in any way possible.
Now that the main structure of Calvin’s Academy No.3 is completed, there are a number of needs which include equipping the science laboratory, installing ceiling fans in the class rooms because of the intense heat from April to the end of August, and the installing of a transformer large enough to handle all the electrical needs of the school. Please PRAY with us for at least $7,000.00 to cover these costs.
Also, Sardar indicates that costs are rising as much as 30 percent for many of the essential supplies needed in the normal operations of the ministries. This also affects the construction of building projects not fully completed. The original estimates did not reflect these increases and so they need about $15,000.00 to cover all of this. Please join us in prayer for these funds.
Please PRAY for the annual retreat which is held in the mountains of north Pakistan. A dangerous bus trip of many hours takes the Christians through an area where terrorists are very active. We try to help with some of the expenses in hiring the buses and the renting of facilities. We would like to raise $1,000.00 for this purpose. The retreat has always proven to have a great spiritual impact on lives, since Bible Study and Christian life topics are the main activity.
We have been without a doctor since the end of March. A Christian doctor has been interviewed and is scheduled to begin his ministry at the clinic May 7th. Please join us in giving praise and thanksgiving to God. Please PRAY for the Lord to bless the doctor and his service.
Sardar is having much trouble with vision and will have a cataract operation this summer. In the meantime, PRAY for special grace and strength for him and Anila as they carry on with their many daily responsibilities.
Like many missionary ministries, we are facing additional financial needs. We granted a rather large increase in salaries since costs are mounting in every area of life for our people. Please join us in PRAYER for God’s provision.
Through a friend, who is an expert in producing video and DVD programs, we now have one covering certain aspects of our ministry and will be glad to send either format (VHS or DVD) to you. Please be sure to specify which format you need. It gives a good presentation of the work and can be used in a number of ways to share our part in the building of God’s Kingdom. To receive one, you may contact me by regular mail; by email; or by phone. You may also receive more information about the work in Pakistan and the other ministries of Westminster Biblical Missions on our web site at www.wbminc.org. Your prayers, support and interest in our Pakistan ministry is much appreciated.
Sincerely in Christ,
Earl E. Pinckney, Field Secretary
P.S. Please send all gifts and pledges to: W.B.M., Inc. and please designate on your check “For the Lahore, Pakistan Ministry.”
