Growing Indigenous Reformed and Presbyterian churches among the nations through evangelism, biblical education & diaconal ministries

Pakistan Report, Winter 2006

Dear Co-laborers in Missions,

Greetings in the matchless name of Jesus Christ our only Lord and Saviour.

It was inevitable. After thirty-three years of missionary service, our beloved friend and brother Rev. Earl Pinckney officially retired from serving as a missionary for Westminster Biblical Mission. The board then unanimously voted to make him “Missionary Emeritus.” This was the first time this has ever been done by our mission.

Subsequently, I was elected to serve as Interim Field Chairman for Pakistan. Please note this is an interim position. As you probably know, I serve the Mission as general secretary. The Board and I believe the work in Pakistan will be best served by someone who can be solely dedicated to the field there. Please make it a matter of prayer that the Lord will raise someone up to take this position in a more permanent capacity as Field Chairman for Pakistan. Also, please pray for me as I do my best to follow Rev. Pinckney’s example of service and dedication.

I asked Rev. Pinckney to write something, at least this one last time, to include in this letter. He sends the following:

Dear Partners in Missions,

I am glad I can share you with the following news items for prayer and praise.
In the midst of a volatile Muslim part of the world our witness in Pakistan continues uninterrupted and is growing. A new school year has begun with very good enrollment in all three schools.

The Christmas season at the end of the year is gift time in Pakistan as well as in the states. Our brother Sardar is asking for $3,500.00. Please help if you can. This would be a great project for a Sunday School class. The money will be used to give each student a gift worth about 70 cents. The remaining funds are personal gifts given to faculty and staff which they often use to buy gifts for their family members which they otherwise would not have.

An unusual opportunity has opened for our students to take a field trip to see salt mines. The cost is $9.00 per student. The parents have already pledged $5.00 per student and we are asked to give the balance of $1200.00 for the 300 students. The wonderful part is that parents are now willing to help financially. Only a few years ago this would not have happened. A trip like this can help enlarge the students’ vision of what is available outside of their immediate neighborhood. It is likely most of them have not traveled very far from home.

Since my last news letter there have been many things for which we praise the Lord. 1.) A gift of $19,000 was given to purchase land for a medical clinic near Calvin’s Academy 3. This is a very fruitful area for new churches. 2.) Funds were given enabling us to purchase and give 30 bicycles. These were given to local pastors along with two for our seminary use and one for each of our schools. 3.) We were very happy to have Dr. John MacRae from Quarryville, PA, as the speaker at our annual five day convention in October. He reported that there were over 2,000 in four of the meetings. He reported that he was pleased with the seminary, the schools and the churches he visited.

Real grace and wisdom are needed concerning the wall problem at CA No. 3. Brother Sardar and Emmanuel Gill have made several trips to see the judge to settle this matter. At times he does not show at the appointed time and at other times he keeps them waiting for hours in an area where there are no chairs. These trips are costly and very taxing on their strength. Pray for a solution to this problem.

A recent medical examination revealed some serious medical needs for Brother Sardar’s health. He is scheduled for a number of expensive exams to determine the source of the problem. We are amazed how he keeps on in spite of these health problems. Again, your prayers are needed.

It is impossible for me to adequately express my debt and thanks to you our faithful supporters. Many of you have been with us for almost thirty years, while others have since joined, enabling us to provide our partners in Pakistan with funds and the needed spiritual and moral support. It has resulted in this significant testimony to our God in Pakistan.

Sincerely in Christ,
Earl Pinckney

As I read Rev. Pinckney’s report, I could not help but think that it truly is a privilege for us to be involved in this work in the land of Pakistan. But it is also challenging. When Rev. Din first told us of the opportunity to purchase land for a new medical clinic, Rev. Pinckney and I were both thinking, “Oh no, how are we ever going to come up with the money for this?” And then God moved a donor to give the entire sum!

Dear friends, the next big hurdle is that we now need to raise approximately $60,000.00 to fund the building of the new clinic. I ask you to please commit this need to prayer. I know our God is able. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills. Our confidence is that we are doing this as a testimony to the love of Jesus Christ.

“For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” – Mark 9:41

Pray also for the Lord to meet our monthly budgetary needs. It is amazing to me that we are able to maintain the Seminary, three Calvin Academies, a medical clinic and over thirty Bible literacy centers for a total of about $6800.00 a month.

Finally, I’m happy to report that Rev. Emmanuel Gill, a long time part of our mission in Pakistan, is planning to come to the U.S. for several months beginning in April 2007. I am already planning his itinerary for his visiting our supporting churches and donors. Emmanuel is an able preacher and if you would like him to come to speak in your church or to present the work in Pakistan, please contact me as soon as possible.

Thank you for your faithful support through your gifts and prayers.
In Christ’s Service and Yours,
Dennis E. Roe, Interim Field Chairman
