Dennis was born at Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1948. Following his graduation from high school in 1966, he spent two years in the U.S. Army. During his time in the Army he served a year in Vietnam as a combat infantryman and was twice awarded the Silver Star for heroism.
Having attended John Wesley College in Owosso, Michigan, he majored in Biblical Studies and minored in American History and received his Bachelor of Arts degree. Sensing God’s call to the ministry he studied at Theological Seminary of the Reformed Episcopal Church in 1979 where he received the Master of Divinity degree.
He is an ordained minister of the Reformed Church in the United States and has served in the Reformed Church since 1983. He began his pastoral ministry by pioneering a new work in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, where he labored 13 years before coming to Grass Valley.
In January of 1995 he accepted the call to organize a Reformed Church in Grass Valley and moved there with his family in July of 1995. Pastor Roe’s pastoral ministry reflects a strong commitment to Biblical expository preaching, teaching line upon line and precept upon precept, and counseling by making application directly from the Scriptures.
In 2003 Pastor Roe was appointed as an adjunct Professor of Evangelism & Missions at City Seminary, Sacramento, California.
He and his wife Julie, who is a surgical nurse, celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary on August 20, 2006. They have four children, Josiah (27), Abigail (25), Esther (23), and Joanna (20).
He is actively involved in a number of veteran associations. In particular, he serves as Chaplain for the 4th Cavalry Association. In this capacity, he conducts a memorial service at the 3/4 Cavalry’s reunion held every other year and he occasionally writes a column in the 3/4 Cavalry’s quarterly magazine, MacKenzie’s Raiders.
He has served as general secretary for Westminster Biblical Missions for over 16 years. This service involves overseeing all WBM’s mission fields and missionaries which includes fields in South Korea, Central and Eastern Europe, Mexico, and two fields in Pakistan. He has traveled to all of these fields. Most recently he traveled on behalf of the MERF mission agency (Middle East Reformed Fellowship) to Cairo, Egypt providing two one week training sessions for the Egyptian church.
