Westminster Biblical
Missions to Pakistan
Spring 2007 Update
Sardar Ahmed Din, Missionary
Dennis E. Roe, Interim Field Chairman
Jonathan Merica, Assistant
Dear Co-laborers in Missions,
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is our only comfort and peace. May the grace of our Lord be with you.
Introducing Rev. Jonathan Merica
As the Lord blesses and increases the ministry of the gospel in Pakistan, so also He has been pleased to raise up a new laborer with WBM. Allow me to introduce Rev. Jonathan Merica, a missionary pastor of Calvary Reformed Chapel in Stockton, CA, and Associate Pastor of Covenant Reformed Church at Grass Valley, CA. Rev. Merica was appointed by WBM’s board as an assistant to your servant and is working with WBM to help in communicating news reports on the work in Pakistan. He has been keeping informed about what the Lord is doing in Pakistan and will be working directly on raising awareness of the growing needs of our missionary outreach in Pakistan, and among Presbyterian and Reformed congregations in the United States and Canada. Through these efforts we desire God’s blessing to provide financial resources to meet the growing needs of Westminster Biblical Missions to Pakistan. Please pray that many new contacts will be made in the months ahead which will produce increased financial support. We need many more Reformed Christians and churches to get involved in advancing the Christian faith in Pakistan.
As the Lord continues to grow the missions outreach in Pakistan at Lahore through WBM, and as greater opportunity for the gospel ministry is emerging, so also the financial needs have increased. In the month of May alone expenses exceeded the budget by $4,100. This was due to unpredictable necessities, such as the need for more copies of the New Testament, complete Bibles, and Biblical primers used for evangelism and education. We thank God for this provision. We also purchased new desks and chairs for Calvin’s Academies #1 and #3, a refrigerator for the medical clinic to replace the old one, and funds were provided to repair the van. We thank the Lord for supplying for these unexpected expenses. By faith we know the Lord has and “shall supply all our need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
Update on Rev. Emmanuel Gill’s Visit
Rev. Emmanuel Gill, assistant to Rev. Din, arrived in the United States the week of June 10, 2007. Please pray for his safety as he travels throughout the U.S. While here he plans to visit with supporters and speak in churches. If you would like to have him preach at your church and/or to present the work in Pakistan, please contact me so we can schedule his visit with your church.
Pray that the Lord will move others to join with us in supporting this critical work in the land of Pakistan. Also, please pray for his wife and five children while he is away.
Report from Rev. Sardar Din
The following is a report from Rev. Din concerning the marvelous things the Lord is doing for the outreach and advancement of missions to the Lahore, Pakistan area.
Calvin’s Academies
Our new admissions have the following enrollments:
- Nursery Section A 55
- Nursery Section B 70
- Kindergarten Section A 80
- Kindergarten Section B 76
- Preparation A 79
- Preparation B 52
- Class IA 75
- Class IB 78
These classes are very congested. We need an additional four classrooms. Please pray about this need. Each classroom will cost approximately $6,000. As soon as the Lord sends in enough money for one classroom we will start building it. This is a tremendous need for Calvin’s Academy #1.
Urgency for Financial Contributions to Meet Growing Needs
We know that we are sending many requests, however, the work is expanding and the needs are growing. Please pray with us that the Lord would add more donors and prayer warriors for His work. This work is helping us prepare many to be built up in the Lord Jesus Christ for a real witness in the land of Pakistan.
The Opportunities that the Lord Has Given Us
1. We have an assembly each morning and read the Word of God. We sing a Psalm and we also sing our national anthem on the loud speaker. We have this facility because we have many Christians around us. Many of the children and parents’ lives are being touched. We have three Bible teachers who each take a 35 minute period to teach the Word of God.
2. After the Azan in the morning, a religious call to get up for prayer, I get on the loud speaker and I pray a short prayer. I then say, “My children open your Bibles to chapter so and so, page so and so. I repeat three times, “Let’s read the Word of God.” I read every day Rev. 1:3. Many of the parents report to me that their son or daughter sits with the family and listens to the Word of God. God’s Word is having a great impact on the lives of these people. I am sure many Muslims also hear the Word of God. I know one day early in the morning a Muslim came to our compound. He met me afterwards and said it was so good that you pray for all people.
3. Many times we help the Christians in a small way. We helped with 10,000.00 Rupies ($1,667) for building their sewage. The actual cost was 50 times this amount. The Muslims of the area came and said that they wished that they had leaders like the Christians. We built a road in front of the gate that cost $1500. They again made the same statement. We have now requested to build a road from the main road to our newly paved road. The Muslims are so excited that all these Christian leaders have come to help them. These small acts of help soften the hearts of Muslims and they in turn take this testimony to many other of their own. These small things we do help spread a good testimony all around. Please pray that the Lord would keep these doors opened.
Presbyterian Theological Seminary
We only have four students at the present. There is going to be a summer vacation in the first week of June and then the educational institutes will reopen at the end of August. Please pray with us for new students to be enrolled. We expect new admissions in the month of August.
Outreach Project
The Lord has opened beautiful opportunities for Rev. Gill, Rev. Nasir, our students and me to have Bible studies at Bahar Colony and Youhanabad. At the Bahar Colony there were 40 people at each meeting and at Youhanabad 50 people came. We are having Bible studies on the Trinity. Many people do not have sound study in the Word of God. Many people remarked that they did not hear in their churches the things we were teaching. We have made CDs and cassettes of our reading of the Psalms and our first Bible Study on the Trinity. Many people are buying these. We will send some CD’s and cassettes through Emmanuel Gill for the Urdu speaking people in the USA. Please pray that these studies will be able to continue and people will have an opportunity to study the Word of God. Our Bible Literacy Project is going well also and our pastors are preaching the Word of God.
Yours in His Service,
Sardar Ahmed Din
Emmanuel Gill
Nasir Lal Din
We give thanks to God for the marvelous works being accomplished in Westminster Biblical Missions to Pakistan. We rejoice in the outreach that is being done to spread the Word of God. Pray that God will call many to salvation by the labors of His servants ministering the Gospel in Pakistan. Pray for new students to come to the Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Praise God for the new students at Calvin’s Academies. Please pray for God to send the $30,000 needed to complete the new Medical Center at Muridke.
We must remember that great opportunities for mission work in Pakistan do not come without great struggles and hardships for the missionaries on the field, as well as for the saints to whom they minister. The Apostle Paul said, “For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.” (1 Corinthians 16:9)
Thank you for your loving support by praying and giving. Please continue to help for we are all laborers together with God!
